The 'Urban Portrait' is a contemporary approach to traditional portraiture. The title 'Urban Portraiture' was coined after Popa's mural trip in Sri Lanka in which he experimented with portraiture over abstracted backgrounds painted by the youth in the various cities he visited. From this experience he has developed a novel approach to portraiture, which brings life, movement and uncanny precision with oil paint to the figure, along with gorgeous textures provided by his use of spray paint, acrylic, 22 carat Double Gold Leaf and Ground Hematite Ore to the figures surroundings.
